WiThrottle Lite: Wireless Control for Model Railroad Enthusiasts
WiThrottle Lite is a free iPhone application that allows model railroad enthusiasts to use their mobile device as a throttle for controlling their trains. This app requires additional hardware and software to function properly.
With WiThrottle Lite, users can link to the popular JMRI software through a local Wi-Fi network and access throttle, address, and function controls wirelessly. Alternatively, users can connect directly to an MRC Prodigy WiFi module, a Digitrax LnWi module, or a WifiTrax WFDmodule.
Digital Command Control (DCC) is the most common control method for model railroaders, and JMRI is a widely used interface program that simplifies DCC programming, control, and other aspects of running a layout. WiThrottle Lite acts as a universal interface, allowing users to control their trains through JMRI or dedicated modules.
WiThrottle Lite has a fully functional basic DCC throttle, with speed and direction control, as well as F0 - F68 functions. Users can acquire addresses wirelessly and adjust the sensitivity of the throttle slider. The app also includes features such as automatic networking and a flashlight for devices equipped with a camera flash.
Multiple devices can use WiThrottle Lite simultaneously during an operating session, making it convenient for club or home use. This free version allows users to confirm compatibility before purchasing the full app.
Please note that WiThrottle Lite requires a compatible DCC system, a local Wi-Fi network, and additional hardware depending on the chosen module.
